Vittra Sweater

Vittror is an invisible people that live amongst us, but in a parallell reality.

They live forever and wields magic in their fingertips.

This sweater grew from a love for latvian braids. It’s just one of my favorite elements of a knitwear design and this sweater got 5 of them! The name Vittra comes from scandinavian folklore and it’s a creature, a scary one! They live underground and are not bothered by human affairs a lot of the time, but when they are enraged they become very viscious. To make sure they stay content and happy you should perform the rituals they crave and also be careful not to build your house on their home.

The yarn used in this pattern is Lettlopi in colors Rust heather (9427) and Barley (1419). I hadn’t knitted a sweater in the rust colored lettlopi before this one and as that is my favorite yarn and color - designing in it was a given. And I’m so happy with this sweater. It’s just perfect for everyday wear but is a bit fancy as well.

The construction for this is a bit funny. You start with a ribbed collar and then move on to a round yoke for the three latvian braids. But it’s not a deep yoke and after the colorwork you divide the yoke for preparation for raglan increases. And then you work those until you reach the right amount of stitches for dividing for sleeves and body. I think that a combination of a round yoke and raglan increases makes the yoke fit very nicely. Then you work the sleeves and before the cuff you do another latvian braid! And it’s cropped. OF COURSE.

Designing this sweater was a breeze in that I knew exactly what I wanted. I saw the latvian braid yoke inside my head and then worked around that to create Vittra Sweater. This is one of my best selling patterns and I have seen so many beautiful verisons of it on ravelry and instagram!

The latvian braids are not har to do, but can be a bit challenging to learn. But, watch a youtube tutorial and you’ll get the twchnique fast enough! The rest of the sweater isn’t hard at all.
