Online Course: Sew a Skirt

During fall 2023 I began planning for the launch of my first online course. I had gotten questions about my skirts for years and years and people asking for a pattern. So, I started writing one in early 2023 but the document got SO extensive and long (it was over 30 pages!) because I wanted to make a pattern that was based on YOUR body, not on sizes. I wanted this sewing experience to be different and I wanted the student to learn more than just how to sew a skirt. I wanted to include how to start sewing, tips on how to sew, sustainability, fabric choice, styling and so much more.
When I got the idea to make an online course instead I actually already had the base for it in this document.

So I created classes and modules and a workbook with the instructions in writing and pictures to go with the videos. I started writing down a script and planning the videos. All this happend during autumn and early winter. I put down so much work and energy in creating a course that felt wholesome, welcoming and fun!

A few days before winter solstice me and Susanne packed the car with cameras, fabrics, skirts and a sewing machine and went to my dads house to shoot the course. We worked from 8-15 (working with natural light is tricky in sweden during this time of year!) and we shot the whole course in one day! We didn’t even stop for food!

After this the real work began.

I set a date in february when I was going to launch the course and then I worked almost only on this for a good three weeks. It was insane! I couldn’t have imagined how much time went into making a course beforehand. It was editing, writing, scetching, writing captions, recording voice over, creating a workbook, marketing, emails, answering questions and a whole lot more things.

My course have 4 modules and this is what they contain:

Module 1: Materials, Fabrics, Low waste pattern, Things to consider when you sew

Module 2: Measuring, Pockets and Waistband, Cutting the Fabric & Preparing the fabric

Module 3: Pockets, Side seams & Back slit, Pleat the Skirt, Attach waistband, Buttonhole, Hem the skirt

Module 4: My sewing Journey and Body Image, Courage to wear your own style, Elevate your style

And I also made a whole lot of bonus content:

Discounts: In my ravelry store and for fabric

PDFs: All my favorite materials when I’m sewing, PDF about fabrics, Embroider on your clothes (stitch guide), WORKBOOK: Find your unique handmade style, How to wear skirts and dresses in winter.

Videos: Scrap fabric projects, My sewing Journey and how it has changed my body image, Knitting Chat Video, How to Elevate your personal style with accessories

Blog posts: Audiobooks I love, How to enjoy a Swedish Fika, Pinterest board with inspiration, Care for garments (spot removal guide)

It was such a fun and challenging time and I was also pregnant at the time, but I had so much energy for this project! It was long days but it was so worth it!

When launch day came I reached my goal within minutes and I’m so grateful for all the beautiful comments and feedback I’ve gotten on the course so far. It really fuelled me to start thinking about the next course..

So, what’s next? I’m currently creating a course in how to knit a cardigan! My Rota Cardigan to be exact. This course will contain how to knit and purl, increase, decrease, how to choose size, how to choose yarn, why to swatch, knitting podcasts, knitting with me-videos, how to block your woollen garments, how to read patterns and much more. In other words - you can be a total beginner when starting this course, but it’s also perfect if you know how to knit but haven’t tried knitting a bigger garment yet!
This course will guide you in how to knit a cardigan, and with that knowledge you will be able to knit other patterns of your choice!

For the launch of the last course you got a free knitting pattern when signing up for my waiting list. This time I’ve amped up the offer quite a bit! This time you will get an additional mini-online course when you buy the course within the first 24 h! So, it might be handy to sign up to the waiting list! I will tell you more about the mini-course when we get near the launch date (which is in early september) but it is also to do with knitting, but a smaller garment..

Thank you for reading this post and I hope you are excited for this next course! I’m working hard on making it cosy and fun for you!

Have a woolly day, and happy knitting!
Love, Anna.
